The Personal Conveyance time is the privilege, not a right. It may be withdrawn at any time if the general conditions are not met:

CANADA

You may use the Personal Conveyance driving time ONLY if you`re bobtailing home or for shopping. You have only 75 kilometers to drive under the PC time. After that distance, the system will turn you to the ON-duty Driving time automatically and if you were running out of hours, you may be driving then under violation.

USA

You may use the Personal Conveyance time when you`re empty and heading to the truck stop. You may use the PC time when you`re driving within the Shipper`s Receiver`s yard.

 DO NOT USE THE PC WHEN:

• do not use the PC time if you`re bobtailing to the trailer (empty or loaded) pickup location (even prior to that you were bobtailing on PC to the Walmart for groceries). (Any country)
• do not use the PC when you`re out of hours and are still in traffic. (Any country)
• do not use the PC when you`re dropped trailer and bobtailing to the next trailer. (Any country)
• do not use the PC when driving to the mechanic the maintenance facility (Any country)
• do not use the PC while moving within the yard or a truck stop with the trailer in Canada
• do not use the PC when you`re driving for shopping with any trailer in Canada
• do not use the PC when you`re driving to the home area with an empty or loaded trailer in Canada
• … and any other circumstances when you are fulfilling a business purpose.

EXAMPLES:

You`re on I95 New Jersey Turnpike heading South-Bound in heavy traffic, your HOS are ending soon and you just passed a Vince Lombardi Travel Plaza. It will be considered a violation when you will not be able to find the next parking space before your HOS expires, even if you`re in traffic.

You had enough HOS but the traffic was blocked due to a huge accident. You`re sitting in your truck on the driver`s chair but not moving anywhere. You must set your status to ON DUTY and write a comment “Traffic blocked/road closed due to an accident”. When the traffic is open and your HOS are expired, DO NOT USE PERSONAL CONVEYANCE. Proceed your driving under violation and then, when you stop at the nearest truck stop/plaza – write a comment “Driving beyond HOS because of road closure”. If you do everything as described, the officer will not give you a violation. It is also a good idea to take pictures with your phone of that blocked traffic.

You got loaded at 22.00 but the Shipper wants you out of their yard. You don`t have HOS. In Canada – they will never ask you out if you tell them you are out of HOS. In the USA – you can set Personal Conveyance and drive to the NEAREST possible truck stop on the map. Write a comment: “Was asked to leave the Shipper`s facility”. In this case, you`re not considered under a violation, unless you`re driving beyond the nearest available stop.
